Overview

Relay is a messenger built for teams inside a company. It stands on its own, with its own database and sign-in. Other Tresura products talk to it through its API, so Relay keeps working even when they are down.

It is built for business: group admins have real controls, and there is moderation, rate limiting and an audit trail.

My role

I designed Relay and directed the build of its API, web app and Android app. I gave it its own design identity on purpose, so it is not a copy of any consumer chat app.

What it does

Messaging

  • One-to-one and group chat, live typing and online status, read receipts
  • Attachments, reactions, replies, edit and delete
  • Voice messages on Android and web

Power features

  • Forwarding, saved messages, @mentions, polls
  • Mark unread, message info, drafts, notification levels, stickers

Admin and safety

  • Group admin controls, blocking, reporting
  • Rate limits and an audit trail
  • Join by phone or email, invites, password reset

Everywhere

  • Installable web app with keyboard shortcuts
  • Web push and mobile push
  • Company chat embedded inside Ledger, with single sign-on
